– 5 Thai provinces declared disaster zones
In Chiang Mai , the governor has declared 5 areas adjacent to the country’s borders as disaster zones after smog levels hit extreme highs this week.  This then we’ll see much needed aid and medical teams sent into the region which is said to be blanked with poor air emanating from war torn Myanmar, and he has made it plain that the smog is without doubt coming into Thailand from Burmese farms and businesses.

– Serious weather warning for Thailand
Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued a serious warning regarding a heavy storm front predicted to affect most of the country between now and Friday.  The storms, whenever they hit, will be intense, we are told and all in low lying areas are advised to prepare ahead.  Our region too is listed for possible storms, so the warning is out, and in plenty of time.

– Big bikers arrested for transporting narcotics
A group of Thai big bikers were nabbed last month in Chiang mai as they prepared to transport nearly 2 million meth pills on their bikes to the south.  Authorities prepared for the raids on a grand scale, incorporating police, army and navy and with multiple follow up operations until now, which have been as a a result of information given by those initially arrested, this then explains the delay in releasing information TO the press as until now it was an ongoing operation. Covering our own province along with Phitsanulok, Nakhon Sawan, Chiang Rai, and Kamphaeng Phet. Resulting in seizure of goods valued at over 30 MILLION baht.

– 15 arrested in raid on Pattaya gambling den
15 people were arrested after an early morning raid on a Nong prue address being used as a gambling den.  Secreted in the lands of a cassava farm, it was locals who reported it to police who then surrounded it, stopping many from fleeing before being handcuffed.  There is plenty of evidence for cops to work with too as, in addition to the usual gambling paraphernalia, they also seized CCTV recordings, made by the operators themselves, presumably to stop anyone cheating.

– Female bar staff attacked by Pattaya expat
Two women have filed police complaints after being attacked by foreigners as they worked in a Soi Lengkee bar.  According to them, it was 2 in the morning when a German expat and his Thai partner refused to pay his bar tab.  That turned into a full on attack on the bar staff that was only halted as a passing policeman stepped in to arrest the drunk.   Either way both women plan to push for police action against the expat who, we are told, until now at least is employed in a company locally. For months now, Pattaya business owners have complained about the increase in belligerent customers refusing to pay bills and, in many cases, assaulting employees.  In this case, which is likely supported by CCTV, recordings we can expect an expensive outcome for Herr Fritz, but reality is that this is also likely the first you will hear of but not the last. It is standard procedure for bars to call police for customers who refuse to pay, for any service provided AND police are more than happy to offer their free, but bais, overnight accommodation to any who refuse to settle.  Hardly worth it really and all recommend that if you play, or drink, you pay.
