– Pattaya motorbike taxis charged for attack on tourist
Two motorbike taxi drivers have been arrested in the city following an altercation with a foreign tourist over the holiday. Seems the tourist parked his bike at a second road location that the taxi boys consider to be their own private parking area,  a scuffle broke out that was, of course, caught on camera and later THAT was sent to police.  The two orange vested riders were duly arrested and have admitted the assault.  Both were fined 1,000 baht and given a stern warning.

– Pattaya fisherman left stranded by marine services
The mayor’s office has ordered an enquiry into claims that a boat operator contacted emergency marine services over the holidays after breaking down in the bay.   Seems several boats were together and were able to tow back to shore BUT the operator claims that they contacted services on the mainland, who referred them to services on Koh Larn, who duly.. referred them to services on the mainland, who then told them that the they were unable to get funds for fuel for their own boats to come to the rescue.   This though has yet to be confirmed as correct by authorities however has caused a stir here.

– ‘THE HONEST BREAKFAST CLUB’ takes a hold on Pattaya’s dining scene
As the city emptied of tourists so many eateries have closed since new years eve, giving staff a well earned rest.  A quick glance at the food pages on social media shows that all, though, will re-open by the weekend.  New upcoming rivals in the race to be the best forum for westerners discussing food here,  THE HONEST BREAKFAST CLUB has seen more and more businesses advertising their specials and more.   Now rivaling the more established chat groups,  the Honest Breakfast club sees members reviewing meals without bias.

– Will Banglamung become one of the World’s top 10 smart cities?
Good news for local employment as state projections for new jobs in the growing Eastern economic corridor are around two HUNDRED THOUSAND. Investors predict that within 3 years, the Banglamung district centre of business and so called smart city will be THE up and coming business area with a goal of becoming one of the World’s top 10 so called smart cities by 2037.  Banglamung is the district which includes the Pattaya region and of course.. the east side.

– Thailand & China to waive Visa requirements
Thailand and China have entered into a visa pact which goes into effect from March 1st and will see nationals from both countries able to travel without visas. With the current short time visa exception due to expire at the end of February, the new exemption period hasn’t been given an end date and no word on how long nationals from each country can remain.

– Deputy PM denies cabinet reshuffle to add Thaksin’s daughter
A Deputy PM  has discounted rumours that former PM Taksin’s daughter is to be  fast tracked into a cabinet position in an upcoming reshuffle.   As he stated that there are no plans for her to be given a ministerial post, so many are waiting to see just which post she will be given as, as is common, a denial  often masks the truth in government.   The cabinet currently has two vacant seats as it is made up of 34, with a max of 36.  This as the Move Forward party leader predicts that she will take the PMs job , something that she, currently, denies.

– Monorail wheel derails & plummets onto Bangkok taxi
When most expect the wheels on a bus to just go round and round, like the song, one Samut prakan taxi driver was surprised when the wheel, on a yellow line monorail train, fell off as it travelled, sending it crashing into the taxi driver’s car bonnet.  Seems wheel tapping is a lost skill on railways there, and no words on routine maintenance checks.

– Thailand to adjust minimum age for marriage
Thai law is likely to change regarding minimum age limits for marriage.  The cabinet is set to review a proposal to raise the legal age for marriage to 18, matching many western countries.  That’s legal marriages of course, and unlikely to affect village traditional marriages which are seen as binding by many, but are unofficial unless followed up with a city hall marriage document.
