– 10% pay hike for civil servants in Thailand
Yesterday saw the cabinet approve a 10% pay hike for all junior and lower paid civil servants which, we are told, is likely to include teachers.  Going into effect mid next year, and repeated in 2025, the lowest salary then would be 18K baht as opposed to the current rates which are much less. Over 400 thousand teachers are paid by the state,  that in total covers close to 1.7 million civil servants including military.

– Government clampdown on debt negotiations
The Thai government will approve new laws regarding debt negotiation for under the counter loans.  The plan is to allow debtors to register grievances if and when they reach a point where they cannot meet their obligations and are in need of a rescheduling of their loan OR if they are charged exorbitant rates.  Loan sharks are a serious issue in Thailand, where bank loans are often impossible and the new laws will likely have a bi product, which IS that authorities will quickly become aware of those who led and demand money with menaces, which will without doubt lead to a clamp down.  The so called debt resolution program is supported by the ministry of finance, police nationally and the social development council.  The registration of debts will become a simple procedure easily done by any in both city and rural areas.

– Later opening hours for bars & clubs APPROVED
The draft proposals for late opening within entertainment areas of certain tourist driven cities was approved by the Thai cabinet yesterday, with the plans to publish and implement them by mid December.  Cities such as Pattaya, now are meeting and mooting the finer points ahead of the formal announcement, and have to decide, at city hall level, which areas OF their cities qualify for the 4 AM closing times

– Female teacher accused of indecent relationship with 12 yr old pupil
In the capital, claims have been filed against a 38 year old school deputy head that is claimed to have engaged in a relationship with a 12 yr old pupil, securing explicit media content that kept her in the relationship against her will by virtue of blackmail threats.  The police complaint was filed yesterday, along with online chat evidence after the girl finally opened up to her family despite her shame.  Likely to cause a social and regular media outrage, police have accepted the charges, as it was revealed that the deputy head teacher, is a woman.  No warrant had been issued by last night.

– Sinking luxury yacht and passengers rescued
The Royal Thai navy reports that just off Krabi they recovered a distressed luxury yacht, about to sink after it was holed in rocks.  With 4 foreigners and two Thais rescued, the vessel itself was strapped to empty oil cans by seamen to prevent it sinking.

– Take Care Kids opens new home
Congratulations to Pattaya’s Take Care Kids foster home, where yesterday they cut the ribbon on a brand new home that they have built with donations from around the world.  Despite the global financial turmoil following covid, the home, which houses children from babies to teens, mostly abused, has struggled from a rough shophouse on the railway road before finally raising the money to buy land and build a large and well designed new home that incorporates, for the first time, a garden too for the children.  Full video will be out at the end of the week, but for now, well done to all who donated.
