– Pro-skydiver dies in failed ‘base-jump’ from Pattaya condo
The weekend saw A British “base jumper” die after leaping from the 29th floor of a Naklua condo unit he had entered illegally, for the purpose of filming himself jumping with a small parachute, which failed to fully open.  The 33 year old Cambridgeshire native was a pro skydiver, often taking students for parachute jumps from planes, but in this case was following his side-passion for base jumping, with the concept being to either leap from building to building in a downward pattern of a full jump with a small parachute.   His jump was filmed and has been shared by numerous groups despite his speedy and fatal landing.

– Bangkok cop jailed for fatal shooting
Bangkok courts have detained a local off duty policeman in JAIL until trial, with no bail after he assisted his pal to get his mobile phone back from a third party.  The cop claims the other man drew a knife..  Either way, HE drew his weapon and duly removed the other from his mortal coil.  He was remanded in detention for 12 days.

– Over 13,000 sim cards blocked in clampdown on scam calls
In recent days, the promised clamp down on SIM cards used by scammers has seen over 13K services blocked and cancelled.  Primarily spotted when a user makes more than 100 calls a day, several days in succession, the new rules are seeing boiler rooms desperate for SIM’s and those to whom they are registered… investigated. Thai authorities are keenly watching activity just across the border in neighbouring Myanmar where heightened military activity has seen artillery fire and air raids , reportedly destroying at least one major city.   Rebels duly responded with attacks close to Mae Hong Son, the main border crossing area.

– German nabbed for stealing 86,000 baht from hotel reception drawer
When a 22 year old with a German passport sauntered into a hotel reception area on Phuket, staff didn’t expect him to steal some 86,000 baht  from a drawer.  Quickly identified as Mohamed Yassine Zariouh, he was nabbed and now awaits trial.

– Are Pattaya footpaths safe for pedestrians?
In Pattaya, a German tourist walking on a pavement area got their foot slashed badly after aberrant construction workers left jagged rebar on the pathway, probably awaiting later concreting.  No signs, no barriers and with his foot torn, the 24 yr old German was given medical treatment.

– British tourist fakes his own abduction in Pattaya
The lies and fake tales of a British tourist here who spent his savings and ended up potless have created quite a storm for both he and his pals.  He got a message to his family saying that he needed cash as he had been abducted, they called British police who contacted the local boys blue.  Tracking him to an east side condo wasn’t difficult, but there instead of finding him rope bound and abused, they found him and his pals in possession of drugs and guns.  2 brits were charged with possession of both, and another charged with drug possession.  Needless to say, no one was charged with kidnap and family back in the UK is less than impressed.
