– 8 officials to be investigated in Red Bull hit-and-run case
The Office of the Attorney-General has, according to thai mainstream media, announced its intention to arraign 8 extremely high ranking individuals as a part of the continuing investigations into just how the heir to the Red Bull family escaped justice in the capital 12 years ago after a hit and run that saw a local motorbike policeman lose his life.   The case has never been concluded, due to the then young man’s escape from Thailand. Coming from what has been described as an imesusabley wealthy family, those charged include a former police chief, staff from within the public prosecutors office and a politician. And all faces claims that they colluded to alter evidence to help the man escape charges of drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter, amid claims that a former forensic science boss altered evidence, and others too face similar charges.

– Thai woman arrested for assisting in slaying of tourist
In Cambodia, a Thai woman, said to have accompanied 4 Taiwanese gangsters across the border, has been arrested.  With the four having fled to another country, she is said to have assisted them after a crime related killing in Bangkok led to a multi national search.   The deadman, known as a gangster too in his home country, was found with multiple shot wounds to the head after being dumped near the main airport in the capital.

– DSI to investigate ‘scapegoat’ probe
The attorney-general has set up a panel of prosecutors to manage a DSI investigation to just how a simple minded 56 year old countryman was persuaded to admit to the murder of his own wife when, instead, she had been killed by a gang of teenagers including not one but TWO sons of police officers in Sa Kaeo province.  Lawsuits against the parents of the juveniles , aged between 13 and 16, have been filed with the criminal courts.

– Will new warning labels reduce alcohol consumption in Thailand?
Booze brewers, along with distillers MAY soon have to add an extra label to all bottles containing alcohol on sale in Thailand.  Government departments are proposing the adding of warning labels, similar to those on cigarette packets, intended to reduce drink related crime. With many pointing out that the warnings on cigarette packets do little to dissuade those who smoke..  the proposal is likely  to go ahead.

– Thai visas see price hike
Unless it’s a typo, New Zealanders are facing a huge hike in the cost of visas to Thailand.   The Royal Thai Embassy in Wellington has posted new fees on its website, showing that a 6 month multiple entry visa will cost a staggering 22 THOUSAND baht, whereas a single entry for the same time, rises to an amazing 6000 baht.  With many worried that similar costs will be reflected globally, and the costs of flights here at 50% above those of a year ago in some cases. Concern is that tourism here will be dominated by those from countries with free travel deals.

– Crazed tourist smears blood around rented room in Pattaya
Police called to a Soi Buakhao rented room found a Finnish man, said to have been out of his mind,  who needed to be restrained after he had smeared the walls and floor of his accommodation.. with blood.  The frightening scene that greeted medics is too graphic to describe in detail, however his own injuries were non life threatening.  Reports indicate that he was removed and taken for psychological evaluation and his embassy informed.  No word on what the 29 yr old had, perhaps, taken, however he remains in close care.

– Elderly man hangs cat from gate
Authorities in Nong prue were called to the home of an 80 year old local man, found to have hung a local cat with a rope from his gate.   It’s believed that he suffers from age related illnesses and was angry at the increasing number of felines wandering the street.  With locals claiming that many had seen pets DISAPPEAR, it’s likely that, despite his age, he will face charges.
