– 27 million baht judgement against rogue biker
A civil court yesterday issued judgement in a case raised by the family of a female doctor who died as a result of a speeding off duty policeman in the capital in 2022.  Without insurance, he then sped through a zebra crossing, and the case was heard against both he and the police.  With judgement given for 27.3 MILLION baht compensation against the 23 yr old low ranking cop BUT nothing against the police force as the man was off duty at the time of the accident.  Chances are then, sadly, that the family will NOT see that money forthcoming, based on his 20-25K income AND the fact that he is not a policeman but instead serving a 5 year prison term.

– Huge explosion at Royal Thai Police explosive warehouse
To the south of Thailand, in Yala, locals were shaken by a huge explosion yesterday morning  at a warehouse belonging to the Royal Thai Police.  Seems it, within a police compound, was used to store explosives that has, at various times, been confiscated during raids over a 5 year period.  No word on just HOW they came to explode but no injuries have been reported.

– Diesel cost price hike for Thailand
The price of diesel at the pumps is set to rise as early as Sunday when the subsidy program to support transport expires.  Back then the price of oil globally had risen and could have seen retail prices of 40 baht upwards, instead the subsidy kept it at around 30Baht, avoiding increases in haulage costs for businesses.  Now, with the world price lower, we may see a 1 to 2 baht a litre hike but nothing like back then.

– Thai singer to sue Filipino for plagiarising song
A Thai singer songwriter is suing a Filipino who, it appears, stole his song,  translated it and recorded it, then launched it for sale online through streaming services.  No credit whatsoever was given to the original author and, in his words, he prefers cash to credit anyway as the Filipino’s version is rocking several online charts now.  Seems others too, with the aid of AI had translated the popular Thai ditty, but not for financial gain, and music streaming platforms have been asked, by the author, to remove the plagurised versions

– ‘Adopted’ son arrested for money laundering for Dad
A Thai man, “adopted” by a Chinese gangster was arrested on arrival in Bangkoks airport this week, charged with money laundering for his DAD.  Seems the father is accused of running a multi billion baht illegal pork importing business that was raided in the past and the son received money, later passing it on from his bank.   With Dad already surrendered to police here, no word on his current whereabouts. Just one side of their enterprise, importing chicken feet, is said to have involved 10 THOUSAND containers worth.

– State Railway of Thailand celebrates 127 years of service
Yesterday saw the golden age of steam once again return to the capital as passengers boarded a train to Ayutthaya , celebrating the 127th birthday of the State Railway of Thailand.  The steam train was spotted by many as it passed through various areas, reminding Thailand that it was in 1896 that King Rama opened the very first railway line here.  Two Pacific-class steam locomotives hauled their carriages to and from the ancient capital, pausing at 4 stops on the way.  For fans of the era of steam, it certainly was a site to be seen
