Thai parliament to convene session on July 3
The next session of Parliament is set to open next week and will begin on July 3, according to a Royal decree published in the Royal Gazette on Saturday.  The first step will be the appointment, via vote, of senior officials and of course on the agenda.. the choice of Thailand’s new PM.   This then is weeks ahead of the schedule and could see the new government installed very quickly.

Fatal fire drill at Bangkok School
A fire practice drill in a Bangkok school that went drastically wrong is being investigated by senior forensics teams.  This as a rechargeable Co2 pressurized fire extinguisher, similar to those used everywhere, exploded in the playground as students gathered, leaving one 18 year old beyond recovery, and close to 2 dozen with reported injuries.   Those fire prevention officers, stunned and in shock, have made themselves available to authorities for investigation as other reports indicate that the canister didn’t have a high pressure release valve, which could have led to its overheating in the sun. That, however, is not necessarily the cause as extinguishers, including this one, are usually built in a very solid manner.  This one, though, was rechargeable and investigators will be looking as to who recharged it, when and with what procedure in place.  Classes at the school have been suspended until Wednesday to allow pupils to adjust to the news and the school to review its equipment.

Funeral for ‘Wild boar’ Hero
The weekend saw the funeral of the former Chiang rai governor, who later transferred to Pathum Thani.  In Chiang rai he oversaw the amazing rescue operation for the youth football team from caves, often going up against his seniors and putting the lads’ safety above all else.  So highly revered was he that HM the king graciously afforded Royal waters as a gift for the ceremonies, along with a wreath.

Vlogger ‘My Mate Nate’ apologizes, yet again
As expected, American vlogger Mymatenate,  has as always, humbly apologized for his Youtube earner that saw him come up with a good game idea, but then hired police in uniform to appear in it.  That and dressing actors in fake uniforms saw him claim, to his followers, that all were police, which it’s now clear they weren’t. He handed the usual baskets of fruit to senior police in Kanchanaburi, where the filming took place and said he was sorry for causing problems.

Chinese tour group apologizes for causing harm to Thai marine life
Sticking with apologies and it was also the turn of a newly set up Chinese tour company to say sorry, through their Thai manager here following complaints that they had led tourists to a protected coral area, allowed them to stand on the coral and catch sea life for photos.   They have promised to train their tour operators in a more professional manner.

3 arrested for holding man at ransom in Southern Thailand
Three people, suspected of being a part of a kidnapping gang in the far south have been arrested after 8 addresses were fraide, following a long investigation into the kidnap of a Thai man for ransom.  The family secretly paid 300 of the 500K demanded, and the man was finally released.  Out of fear they paid another 100k but as demands increased they called the police.   Said to be a wily band of minor officials and insurgents there is more to this story for sure and a police report to the media was promised for today.

Electricity costs to drop in Thailand
Electricity bills are expected to drop  by August, this as a combination of cooler weather and a price cut go into effect.  Numerous listeners have mailed us with reports of their power bills being 40% up on previous months and years.  The extreme heat in the past few months combined with unpredictably high unit rates saw businesses paying 5.33 baht per unit at the start of the year,  and households 4.72. Add to that the other fees and bills have taken a large chunk out of budgets.

Pride Parade in Pattaya
Meanwhile at home, the gay pride parade filled Pattaya’s seafront at the weekend.  Starting much later than planned, many stood in the heat waiting for the parade but, as it finally appeared, it was a spectacle of colour, mirth and more.

Disrobed Brit trashes Pattaya hotel
A British man was in police custody Sunday after deciding he was Keith Moon in his hotel room.  Totally trashing the luxury hotel accommodation and naked , he finished his rampage by emptying a foam fire extinguisher.   Finally persuaded to put some shorts on, he was convinced into handing himself over after a long while of rage and taken into police custody where he was on watch until it could be established what had made him go mad.  Either way Mr. Mcklusky faces an expensive bill from the hotel.

Water outage in Central Pattaya
And in Central Pattaya , water supplies will be off for much of today as the water company replaces piping sub ground.  Promise is that it will be back on again by 8 this evening however home owners are warned that once it IS back on, they are better to let taps run for quite a while to wash out the born coloring and any debris that often occurs after a shut off.
