– No leadership vote this week in Thailand
The planned Parliamentary vote for Thailand’s new PM has been cancelled according to the house speaker last night. Events took a new turn earlier in the week when the Office of the Ombudsman petitioned the constitutional courts, following claims that last week’s vote to bar K Pita of the Move forward party from being voted on multiple times is and was in defiance of the regulations. Those who proposed it at the time cited a regulation, the Ombudsman sees that as a violation and, until it is determined who is in the right, any further vote would have been.. a waste of time. Vents then this week see the previous government remain in power as caretaker government and no set date for future vote.

Friday, the birthday of HM the King, the weekend, Monday now added and then two Buddhist holidays, Asacha bucha day and Wednesday the start of the Buddhist lent. Seen as a boost for the tourism sector, traffic is set to become heavy in many areas and thousands are expected to take the drive to the north to visit families there, as they do New year and Songkran. Several motorways will be toll free on holiday days and regions such as Pattaya can expect to be full to the brim with domestic tourists. The holiday will also see those key offices, utility and immigration close and so today and tomorrow those are expected to see huge queues. A recent chick on the online 90 day reporting for those with extensions of stay has seen a speedy turnaround, half a day , thus saving many the NEED to go to immigration offices. That service is likely to accept applications but NOT necessarily approve during the holidays, however, it’s a semi automated process and so much faster.

– Crocodiles escape farm in flooded waters
In Nakhon Si Thammarat, locals are looking for crocs. The wild type and NOT the holy shoes. At least 10 of them escaped from a farm during heavy floods and 4 so far have been returned to their unnatural habitat, the remaining half dozen are being sought with locals being told that if they spot them, it’s best to call in the croc bister and not try to capture them themselves.

– Ring destroys wedding tackle bliss
Meanwhile at home, it takes a lot to surprise a Pattaya ambulance team, but when they were called to a Swiss tourist’s rented accommodation, instead of bandages and drugs, they sent back for.. an angle grinder. Seems the embarrassed Swissman, Jean Thomas, not his real name, had for some reason fitted a tight solid steel ring on his wedding tackle. According to the instructions, it was supposed to be easily removed, but the locking mechanism jammed. He ignored it until the pain became too great to bear. Medics delicately sliced it twice, cleverly avoiding skin contact, before it was able to be removed. As he recovered, so photos of the team revealed that they too saw the humorous side but word is that bruising will put JT out of the night time business for a while.

– Busy weekend for Pattaya
As the region preps for a huge influx of domestic tourists, hotels are reporting high numbers of bookings. Best to avoid the usual arteries to the seafront when possible, as there is always congestion, but for most of the region, away from the city, the effect is expected to be nominal. With the reminder that utility companies and immigration too are looking forward to a long holiday and closures.
