– Gunfire from Myanmar forces school closure inside Thailand
The Royal Thai Army has explained the temporary closure of a border school in Tak Province after fighting between Myanmar troops and ethnic armed groups sent rounds across the border into Thai territory.
Army officials say they are closely monitoring the situation after learning that Myanmar forces had reinforced positions directly opposite the Thai border. Several rounds from the clashes landed inside Thailand, prompting authorities to temporarily close the school as a precaution.
- Foreign DJ arrested for working illegally in late-night raid
Anyone who has lived in Chiang Mai for any length of time knows that local authorities take a very strict view of foreigners working without permits. In simple terms, no work permit means no work.
That appears to have been overlooked by a foreign DJ who was arrested after police alleged he was performing without the required documentation.
Tourist Police detained the man during an inspection of an entertainment venue shortly after midnight. Officers say they found him actively working as a DJ despite not holding a valid work permit.
He was later handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings. The arrest forms part of an ongoing campaign targeting illegal employment by foreign nationals.
- Thailand blocks 13,000 World Cup gambling sites in major crackdown
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society says it has blocked more than 13,000 gambling websites and online betting links during the first 18 days of the 2026 World Cup campaign.
Authorities are using artificial intelligence to identify and analyse gambling websites and social media networks, allowing them to detect and block illegal platforms more quickly.
Officials continue to warn gamblers that even if they do win money through illegal sites, they may find it difficult—or impossible—to collect their winnings if the operators disappear or are shut down.
- Thailand warns steel firms as surprise inspections loom
The Industry Minister has warned steel manufacturers that stricter inspections are on the way, including genuinely random testing of products and production standards.
Repeat violations could lead to operating licences being suspended or even revoked.
The minister said the concern is not simply how steel is produced, but whether it meets the safety and quality standards required for construction and industrial use.
– Major crackdown targets foreign-owned businesses in Thailand
Analysis of the government’s crackdown on suspected foreign nominee business networks in Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi suggests the primary targets are not ordinary foreigners living with Thai partners in houses or condominiums.
Instead, authorities are focusing on business operators allegedly using company structures to bypass Thai ownership laws and, in some cases, avoid taxes.
Investigators have already inspected 89 land plots worth more than one billion baht as part of the operation. Authorities say they have also identified 29 companies suspected of operating through nominee arrangements and 48 land-holding companies where foreign shareholders appear to outnumber Thai shareholders.
Of particular interest are complex company structures where multiple businesses own shares in one another, effectively allowing foreigners to control far more than the legal limits permit.
Law firms and company service providers accused of supplying nominee shareholders could also face prosecution.
Officials say Thailand remains open to legitimate foreign investment, but is becoming increasingly aggressive in pursuing arrangements designed to bypass land ownership and business regulations.

- Former actress jailed after false accusations backfire in court
A former Thai actress and beauty queen has been sentenced to two years in prison without suspension after being found guilty of filing a false police report and defaming an innocent man.
The court found that she deliberately made false statements to investigators at Thonglor Police Station in an attempt to have the man criminally prosecuted.
The case stemmed from a financial dispute in which she allegedly borrowed money, issued a two-million-baht cheque that later bounced, and then failed to honour repayment agreements.
While there were questions regarding the level of interest being charged, the court heard that the lender had repeatedly offered opportunities for repayment before legal action was taken.
Although she now faces prison, the outstanding debt itself remains payable once she is released.
– Brit claims Indian tourist touched daughter inappropriately before Pattaya brawl
Meanwhile in Pattaya, police have arrested a man following a series of confrontations that spread across several streets near a songthaew parking area.
CCTV footage reportedly showed the suspect arguing with several groups before chasing an Indian tourist and becoming involved in a wider altercation.
However, there may be another side to the story.
The man’s daughter claims the incident began when the Indian tourist allegedly touched her inappropriately as they passed each other.
According to her statement, her father confronted the tourist, leading to an argument and eventually a fight. She further claims her father later became involved in a separate altercation with a Thai Bolt motorcycle rider who attempted to intervene.
The suspect initially fled the scene but was later arrested.
Police have so far charged him with being drunk and causing a public disturbance while investigators continue reviewing witness statements and CCTV footage.
