– Thailand’s hot summer starts today
The Meteorological Department has announced the start of summer, predicting temperatures in the next 60 days of up to 45 degrees.   As much of the nation warms up now, weirdly to the north in Chiang Mai, reports of frost but, we are told, daily midday temperatures in most regions hit 35 already.  We are certainly going to see multiple days of over 40 soon though as with daytime temperatures rising, the night time cool down will be to a lesser extent.

– Booze ban tomorrow in Thailand
With Saturday a dry day for alcohol sales in Thailand, as it’s a Buddhist holy day, so good news for drivers around the capital as many expressways will be toll free.   Don’t plan to simply drive through any toll area though as the offer is very much limited to the capital, according to media reports.

– Over 7,000 queue for Thai visas
Burmese authorities raise the bar on military conscription, seeing women called up and men up to to the age of 35, so the number applying for Thai visas to come here and escape that has risen to over 7000 so far, seeing the Thai embassy overloaded, long queues and  many coming here illegally.  Thailands neighbour has seen an increase in the success of so called rebel or resistance troops beating the regular army in several areas and the state there plans to overwhelm them .. with numbers of new troops.

– ‘Big Joke’ denies involvement in online gambling case

However, Surachate believes these accusations are part of a larger conspiracy orchestrated by fellow police officers aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

– Parents of underage street racers fined
In a recent verdict by the Criminal Court, the parents of 10 underage individuals found racing on roads in Samut Prakan have been convicted of dereliction of duty. It’s been disclosed that each parent initially faced a fine of 10,000 baht. However, due to their guilty pleas, the court reduced the fine to 5,000 baht per parent. This then reiterates the authority vested in authorities to penalize parents for offenses committed by minors under 18. The 10 underage individuals were apprehended alongside 22 other youths, all over 18, for engaging in nighttime racing activities in Samut prakan. The court imposed a 10,000 baht fine on the older youths, with a suspended three-month imprisonment.

– Thai cops ‘underpaid’ and ‘in serious debt’
Poor as a expression perhaps or not.. but according to the Thai chief of police, many are underpaid and in serious debt, giving rise to concern about their reliability in some sectors of the community.  According to him the total debt owed by boys in brown is upward of 300 billion baht, with much attributed to the extremely low legal salary paid to junior officers.   He has asked for a budget to build accommodation for officers and families in an attempt to reduce their living costs.  Of equal issue, or perhaps as a result, there is a shortage of new recruits too.

– Tourist escapes defamation charges for bad hotel review
When is not advised to post on tripadvisor?  Well, the answer seems to be WHEN you have something less than positive to say.  An American expat here has seen charges dropped though after negotiating with a Koh chang resort where he posted.. shall we say, less than complimentary comments regarding the staff.  That led to defamation charges and this week he has, according to Thai media, agreed to apologise publicly to the resort.

– Youngster bullied for years at local private school
A Sriracha mother, who sends her son to a fee paying school there, has gone on record claiming that he has been bullied for years.  Seems the lad finally told her his tale after skiving from lessons to avoid mistreatment by bullies.  The school is, apparently, looking into the matter.  She thought her offspring was lazy until he finally opened up to her and claims that his classmates made him break rules, stood on his head and forced him to lie down on a concrete area in the sun with the promise that if he didn’t do so, he would get a pasting.
