VERY LATEST NEWS FROM THAILAND in English (21 September 2023) from Fabulous 103fm Pattaya

– Killer Dad arrested
Outrage across Thailand following the revelation that a Kamphaeng Phet man is alleged to have confessed to causing the death of his 2 year old daughter, along with his current wife and THEN to the loss of life of 4 sons from previous marriages.  The 46 year old was arrested in Pathum thani and returned to his home province where police then discovered remains buried under concrete.   Reported as a seriously aggressive man, he was caught after complaints by neighbours of violence toward his two teen daughters.  When police noticed that of his current brood, one was missing, the man confessed to causing her demise.  Police reports indicate that he has fathered a total of ten children with 4 different wives in the past. And his previous wife has implicated HIM in the demise of their children together.

– Heavy storms to lessen, strong winds to continue
Heavy storms across Thailand are expected to lessen from today as waves are reported to be up to 2 metres in both the Andaman sea and gulf. Winds will continue however and a warning is out for small boats to remain on the shorelines.

– Police shootout with traffickers turns fatal
In Chiang Rai province, a police officer died during a shootout with drug traffickers, seeing one of the criminals killed and another police officer injured this week.  6 million meth pills were seized after the gang refused to surrender when approached at a roadblock.

– Fake Chonburi cop nabbed
When is a cop not a cop?  When it’s a civilian dressed in police uniform trying to con genuine police into releasing his pal on charges of drunk driving.  That is exactly what happened in Chonburi this week, when real boys in brown suspected and then confirmed that the man in front of them, adorned in the uniform of a lieutenant colonel, was a fake.  End result, as his drunken pal will have received a small fine and ban, so HE himself faces serious charges and was being held in police cells.  We presume someone brought him clothing as his grab was removed as evidence.

– Saturday to see bhuddist procession in celebration of the birth of Lord Ganesha
Saturday is the last of several days of buddhist ceremonies in the city at the Mae Kali temple where monks and parishioners celebrate the birth of Lord Ganesha.  Here, a buddhist deity is remembered through processions, and a Hindu fire worship ceremony. Leading to Saturday’s procession to the ocean that sees a float launched into the sea.

– ‘Pattaya, Pattaya’ singer passes away
The author and singer of Pattaya’s most famous songs passed away this week. ‘Pattaya, Pattaya’  has played here for decades, much to the pleasure of tourists, but most don’t know that Belgian Lou Deprijck wrote, sung, and produced it.  Probably the most successful singer to have been an expat here, he was the voice behind multi million seller ‘Ca Plane pour moi’, under the guise of PLASTIC BERTRAM, and is credited with 20 million record sales globally as either writer or singer.   ‘Pattaya, Pattaya’ was his rehash of one of his own top sellers ‘Kingston, Kingston’.  The 77 year old passed away in a Brussels hospital according to his partner.

– Huge petrol station sign collapses
Investigations are underway after a massive petrol station sign collapsed and fell onto the highway in Sri Racha, killing a passing pickup truck driver.  The sign, double the length of a truck, fell onto the truck and a small coffee shop on the Sukhumvit road there. Failure of the mounting, during high winds and a storm, has been blamed and the station operators have promised full compensation for the families involved.

– Pattaya gold shop robber found in Korea
When an armed robber relieved a Pattaya gold shop of over a million baht worth of the yellow stuff MONTHS ago, he was one of the few to get away with his crime,  as police sought him here, he had already slipped out of the country. Along with his ill gotten gains.  BUT, this week Thai police, working with their counterparts, discovered him living comfortably in.. KOREA.  No word on how much of his swag is left but he, at least, will be shipped back here to face trial.
