– Former PM Thaksin released on half a million baht bail
Bail yesterday at half a million baht was set for recently released former PM Thaksin.  Having been released on parole at the weekend  he faced new charges of violating criminal law here, based on speeches he made whilst living overseas. The 74 year old former PM, is said to be resting at his home now, suffering from, among other ailments, spinal damage or erosion to his neck.  Of the charges, some 7 were dropped due to a lack of evidence but 4 remain under investigation.

– ‘Big Joke’ dismisses involvement in online gambling case
Deputy national police chief Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn has told the press that he has NOT received any summons in the matter of online gambling websites that were raided by authorities and saw other police officers implicated in its running and protection.    This followed unconfirmed reports in Thai news to the contrary.  Hakparn was previously in the running for the national police chief position but lost his chance after it was inferred that he had been involved.  8 other senior ranking officers are said to have been charged in the matter.

– Wild tiger captured after wandering around Thai village
In Kamphaeng Phet province, villagers in the Klong laan area are breathing sighs of relief after experts trapped a tiger that had been spotted in the area since the weekend.  Trapped and sedated, it was removed to a medical facility where it will be treated and checks carried out on its health.  Blind in one eye, it had killed several local farm animals, and will be returned, at a later date, to a wildlife retreat away from human population.

– Thailand pushes for cheaper airfares
A mass of complaints regarding the cost of domestic flights in Thailand has seen the transport minister ordering the civil aviation authority to bring prices down.  In at least one case which we know of, businessmen paid a taxi to take three of them to Phuket, as it worked out cheaper than flying. Others claim to have paid up to 12 thousand baht for the fare which, pre-covid, could have been bought for a few thousand baht return.   The minister told the press that in some cases, fees were doubled what they could be and that has to be fixed ASAP.

– Late night fire at Pattaya hotel
Residents at a hotel near the Sukhumvit sat outdoors after midnight wrapped in blankets as fire teams doused flames in an apartment where it’s believed a fire broke out due to an electrical issue.  The 5 floor building saw 6 fire trucks attend, and the flames doused within 30 minutes.  With no one injured, and the fire alarm system reported to have woken all, teams then set about ventilating the building to remove smoke and make it safe for others to return inside. It’s believed that the room inhabitant had noticed a burning smell and went down to reception to report it, on returning he found the room aflame.

– Navy officer critically injured in severe road accident
Meanwhile at home and fire emergency teams had to use the jaws of life to gain access to a navy officer who crashed into a telegraph pole near Sattahip.   Discovering the single vehicle accident, records show that his Toyota truck was upside down.  Reported to have been in critical condition at the time, he was sent to hospital.. it believed that he was speeding at the time of impact.
