– 242 underage drinkers caught in nightclub raid
Over 240 youngsters were caught in a sting operation in Chiang Mai where a pub was reported as serving those too young to legally drink. Way after midnight police manned all exits before entering and discovering 242 underage drinkers. That caused a logistical nightmare as all were ferried to the local social development office where parents were duly invited to recover their errant teens. Turns out that the so-called club had no license whatsoever and the operators were being held in custody yesterday. Worse – it had been open for 3 years without anyone batting an eyelid. Meanwhile, 5 local senior police officers, who had recently got their local jobs back after concerns over an illegal casino discovered in the area.. have again been suspended.

– Petrol & Diesel prices to be slashed in Thailand next week
New government edicts go into place this week that will see the cost of fuel for vehicles, both petrol and diesel drop in price, Gasohol 91 prices are cut by 2.5 baht for three months and kicks off next Tuesday, meanwhile, Diesel enjoys a 2.5 baht a litre cut that went into effect a few weeks ago. All part of a national transportation price management scheme that has seen electric train fares in the capital capped at 20 baht.

– Health Ministry to amend narcotic laws
The Justice Ministry has given its support for plans, issued by the Health Ministry, that would see an amendment to the terms which define a drug dealer as opposed to a user or addict. Currently, anyone caught carrying 2-3 meth pills can be charged as a dealer. The new figure, intended to be 10 pills, means that less will be charged with the higher crime. With others worried that street dealers themselves will take advantage of the new pan, by never carrying more than ten themselves, the concern is that to date numerous junkies have been jailed AS dealers. Previously, when K Anutin was health minister, he had planned to propose that anyone caught just 2 pills be categorized as a dealer. The decision has yet to be made.

– Low-interest loans offered to returnees from Israel
As flights from Israel come to an end, having seen thousands repatriated, so the state will offer low-interest loans of up to 150K baht to returnees, at a nominal 1% interest rate. The loans will be available to the self-employed and farmers, enabling them to get back on their feet. With repayments of up to 20 years available, this then will see many able to restart, after investing or borrowing to pay to get to Israel originally to work.

– Tourist found deceased with knife wounds in hotel room
On Phuket, police are investigating the death of an American national who, according to hotel staff where he stayed, had taken to heavy drinking and appeared to be scared. Others say that he spent most of his time in his room after arriving at the start of September. The 35-year-old, registered as living in Texas, was found with multiple stab wounds to the neck by maids who went to clean his room.

– Civil servant falls victim to 800,000 baht fake cop scam
And yet another scam seems to be working for the deadbeats who work the phones here. At least one lady was relieved of a considerable amount of money and others are likely to report their losses too. Far from dumb, the lady is a mid-level civil servant, yet when she got a call from someone claiming to be from the police, she believed them after they forwarded fake documents to her. She was then somehow convinced to transfer 800K baht TO them, to prove that she could, and believing that it would be returned straight away. Of course.. it wasn’t.
