– Second suspect arrested in Yala car bomb incident
As a full investigation continues in Yala, to the south of Thailand, following a weekend car bomb incident at a police accommodation area, reports from authorities indicate that a second suspect has now been arrested. It was confirmed that the vehicle used actually belonged to the authorities and had been previously taken without permission. This led to the arrests of a civil engineer along with another individual. Both are now being held by the military for questioning after the explosion, which rocked the housing area and saw a local Muslim teacher lose her life as she cycled by at the time of impact. With 18 others taken to the hospital, evidence shows that the driver who parked the vehicle was picked up by a motorcyclist as both fled the scene. Yala is a hotspot for violence, driven by differing religious beliefs and is not typical of Thailand by far. Most embassies warn visitors to avoid the region.

– Heavy storms & flooding in Thailand
Heavy storms blanketed much of Thailand again last night. A report from yesterday evening showed that waters had subsided from heavy flooding on Phuket, but the task of removing mud from carriageways remains a daunting challenge for municipalities. With extra crews called in and working full on, major thoroughfares were passable by yesterday. However, many minor roads remain entrenched in mud. The storms, well, they are here for a while.

– Turkish man charged for stealing ex-girlfriend’s phone
When a Turkish man fell out with his girlfriend, he tried to regain her love. When that failed, he stole her phone. Caught in a Bangkok mall, he confessed to posting photos from that phone onto social media. The 26-year-old is charged with posting obscene material, leaving the media wondering what kind of clips she had saved. Either way, it seems they won’t be making up.

– Tourists warned of new scam in Pattaya
Meanwhile, at home, the latest in tourist scams has been highlighted by one visitor who mailed us details and footage of non-Thais who work as a gang to greet tourists along the beach and Second Road. They point out physical failings, such as baldness or a large stomach, and discuss with their marks the fact that local convenience stores sell medicine that will quickly restore their manly characteristics. Forty baht appeals to many, and since it comes from a well-known store, many have been happy to be shown. However, afterwards, the con men say that to really make it work, the mark needs to buy a cheap addition from a local herbal medicine shop. That is when he is taken to the shop in a side soi and pressured to buy the useless liquid. The scamming touts are working as a team, slick and skilled in multiple languages, and are presumed to be working in league with the shop owners. Beware.

– Food delivery driver rides motorbike into roadworks hole
A food delivery driver who survived riding her motorbike into a poorly marked hole in the road, caused by roadworks, has urged City Hall to fix this and other similar issues. Riding in the rain to make a delivery, she joined a list of several who have disappeared into the hole, according to locals. They demand that Nong Prue authorities order the contractors to better sign and light the area to prevent further accidents. The hole? Nearly five feet deep.
