– DUI blood tests become mandatory on Thai roads
The government has warned that any driver refusing to take a blood alcohol test will be regarded as drunk, for the purpose of the law, and prosecuted as such without hindrance under a new police directive expected to become standard operating procedure very soon. The new regs also include the right BY police to secure blood samples from injured people either via medics or from hospitals. The current rules don’t allow police to check the blood alcohol level of drivers who are unconscious.. That, too, will change.

– Thailand & 4 other countries to become a single tourist destination
Tourism ministers of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaysia have approved a plan that would see the region promoted as a single tourist destination.   Designed to encourage visitors to travel from one to another, the plans are of course in their infancy so, we wait to hear how issues such as visas will be affected.  Currently, each country has its own visa program AND there is a maximum limit of stay.

– Thailand’s ‘Move Forward’ hit with dissolution petition
As predicted, the same  “concerned member of the public ”, an ex senator, who effected the recent court case against Move Forward, has filed a petition with the election commission demanding the dissolution of the Move Forward party.  Move forward, which WON the last general election,  recently fell foul of courts who have deemed that a portion of their election PR could undermine the constitution and the role of the monarchy here.

– Gambling debts blamed for gold shop robbery 
2 million baht in gambling debts has been claimed as the catalyst which drove a man to recruit another, and then a handful of teens, before robbing a Surat thani gold shop last month.  Now all in custody, charges have been made as police revealed that CCTV tape showed HIM approaching the counter and removing all the stock as his cohort stood guard swinging two guns around at any one nearby.  The teens, well they facilitated the escape.  The gold was already sold on and profits dived before their arrest.

– Russian rock band deported
The errant Russian rock band arrested for performing for profit without correct work documentation has been deported – to Israel.  The seven band members claimed that they faced life threatening punishment if returned to Russia.  All settled fines for working without a permit and are already on foreign soil.

– Lifeless foreigner found floating in Pattaya bay
Meanwhile, at home and Pattaya police are awaiting initial post mortem reports on a drowned man recovered from the shoreline and believed to be Indian.  Spotted by restaurant staff, they raised the alarm, he was duly removed but it is estimated that he had passed away at least 3 hours before, and no physical injuries were apparent.

– Nightlife entertainment & weed shop raids in Pattaya
Bang Lamung Provincial Administrative Organization is heading up a patrol team which will continue with inspections of licenced premises as it did last night, checking licences, along with fire exits and equipment and also checking that patrons are of age and not armed in any way that can cause conflict.  Much of Walking Street area has, we are told, now been checked and the cleanup operation is set to absorb to the teams out stopping the sale of marijuana by illegal street vendors.
