VERY LATEST NEWS FROM THAILAND in English (2 August 2023) from Fabulous 103fm Pattaya

– Thai cop fired for attempting to extort personal favors & cash from distressed lady
A police lieutenant colonel who is alleged to have attempted to export personal favours AND 100K baht from a distressed lady has been fired by his superiors. Seems the lady’s car broke down. She was offered the use of a phone in a local man’s home only for him to attempt to take advantage of her, she fled to a neighbouring property. The neighbor, not knowing what was going on, reported her to police for trespass. That alone was ordeal enough but when SHE was arrested, despite her filing a statement regarding the initial attack, AND the trespass charge withdrawn by the neighbor, the now ex-cop offered to drop all charges in return for the cash and favour. SHE was smart enough to report the whole issue to the Saraburi police chief’s office and this week, following an 8 month investigation, the unemployment numbers for the nation were increased by one.

– Navy frigate crashes at Rayong port
The Thai royal navy has confirmed that a lack of skills led to those at the wheel of a frigate, the naresuan, crashing at a Rayong port during departure. Seems the ship’s gunwale caught thagains the quayside damaging a triple torpedo launcher, along with other onboard equipment.

– Pardons see San Suu Kyi’s jail terms reduced
Su kyi, the 78 year old Burmese former leader now jailed by the state there and on permanent house arrest has seen 5 of the 19 charges against her dropped this week. Once favoured by media and governments around the world, she blotted her copybook somewhat during the short term of participation in an elected government in Myanmar, when she failed to support or protect minorities who saw their homes burned and they were driven away toward the borders. The dropping of charges will have little effect on her incarceration though, as the remaining charges add up to decades of detention. The reduction was a part of an amnesty in Thailand’s neighbouring country, related to the Buddhist lent and sees 7K prisoners get sentence cuts and a reported 125 non Burmese prisoners released and deported.

– Sticky fingered tourist caught pickpocketing at Bangkok’s airport
At Bangkok’s main airport a Kuwaiti TOURIST didn’t make his flight, after he was caught on CCTV stealing a phone from a baggage booking clerk. Seems the wily Kuwaiti pocketed the iPhone. She noticed it missing and he was discreetly removed from the boarding area. Despite his denials, the phone was found on his person and the film clip.. nailed it.

– Mass exodus from Koh Chang Island as 6-day holiday ends today
Tourists on the packed out island of Koh Chang have had an interesting 6 day vacation. Storms and high waves have featured most days and red flags have been out on all beaches warning visitors NOT to swim as heavy waves continue there. Today will see the mass exodus of travelers and those queuing for the ferries are advised to take plenty of water and even a packed lunch with them, as the waits.. will be long.

– Thai man wins lottery jackpot after purchase of a single ticket
Yesterday saw the early drawing for the Thai national lottery, a day early to allow for it not to take place on a Buddhist holy day. 6 million baht was the top prize and that went to a man who buys just one, 80 baht, ticket for the twice a month draw. 36 and single, probably not for long, the delivery man told the media he will build a house for his extended family, bank the rest and keep on working . That and perhaps avoiding a large queue of ladies who NOW see him as a matrimonial project.
