VERY LATEST NEWS FROM THAILAND in English (19 October 2023) from Fabulous 103fm Pattaya

– 10,000 baht giveaway planned for next year
Love it or hate it, the 10K baht giveaway to all Thais over the age of 16 WILL go ahead early next year.  This week has seen those organising it announcing that the spend power, set to cover any registered business within 4KM of a person’s registered home, will be extended to any such business within the region as many complained that in rural areas there were no outlets close by to spend the digital money on.  Still though for those living away from their registered homesteads, the wallet has no value, thus affecting most workers in factories from central Thailand to the capital.

– Unhealthy air pollution levels return to Bangkok
Poor air quality is being reported in the capital, the first time since spring, as despite rains, stagnant air and traffic fumes are being blamed.   Good news though as experts predict it will clear by the end of the weekend.

– Chulalongkorn Memorial Day train rides to Ayutthaya
Chulalongkorn Memorial Day is on October 23. A celebration of his memory via the state railway will see steam engines travelling with passengers from the capital to Ayutthaya and back.   Rama 5 established the state railway during his reign.  The tickets are always very popular, from under 330 baht to 800 baht return.. To book , simply google ticketrailway.com

– Late night raids on Pattaya bars & clubs
Checks on entertainment venues around the city opening AFTER legal hours saw police early yesterday morning raiding several including the RAVE bar in South Pattaya.  50 guests still partying after 2AM.  All were duly checked for age and drugs, only 2 failed the pee tests but the operators face heavy fines.

– Thai man ends it all after argument with girlfriend
A row between a 29 year old Thai man and his girlfriend saw him lock himself in their bathroom, hanging himself with the shower pipe.  Medics who attended found that he was beyond recovery and a police check revealed a spotless home with no signs of any altercation. However, full forensic examination has been ordered prior to funeral plans by his family.

– Huay yai car crash causes huge blackout
In Huay yai, a local managed to smash into a telegraph pole before dawn.  With locals speculating that he was drunk, he managed to demolish both the pole and his car, bringing down several others and seeing a local blackout.   Only injuries were from the airbags, according to reports that also tell us that it took until 2 in the afternoon to restore power to the area.

– Pattaya Elephant ‘Nam chok’ retires
And with the retirement age for HUMANS set at 60 in Thailand, that appears to have been extended, at least on elephants too.  Nam Chok, who for decades has been used for rides at a local elephant farm, has been handed over to a sanctuary to allow it to see out the remainder of its days peacefully.  With the owners permission  WILDLIFE FRIENDS FOUNDATION of Thailand recovered the near blind pensioner with plans to reuse it in their centre which currently is home to 24 others, along with tigers and other rescued animals.

– Pattaya woman spots stolen motorbike for sale on Facebook
When a 23 yr old had her motorbike stolen in Soi Khao Noi, she thought she would never see it again.  That was until the dumb thief advertised it on social media for sale within hours.  As many do, the owner had personalized some part of the bike with stickers or decorations.  The registered owner is expected to file a police complaint.

– Pattaya ‘No ladyboys’ sign goes viral
When social media gets its teeth into something, it doesn’t want to let go, and that was the case this week after many posted signs from beach road, stating that transvestites are banned from the frontage.  Fake news tho, as it’s simply some wag writing OVER a banner advertising the upcoming bikini beach race. Some things, here in the city of fun.. never change.
