– Thailand marks 80th anniversary of Japan’s WWII surrender
Today, August 15th, sees the 80th anniversary of the Japan’s admission of defeat and surrender following decades of violent abuse across Asia by their forces, culminating ni their extension of WW2 which saw Thailand paralysed by their forces. Memories remain, and Thailand’s field of war graves remain too as a reminder for the vile mistreatment of POWs, both in Burma and in Thailand as the Kapanese forced labour with minimal sustenance in an effort to complete a railway to the Thai coastline. Serving members of all western allies lost lives here, British, American, Canadian, Australian, NewZealanders, Indians and more, and a worthwhile reminder too, multiple thais were slaughtered for kindness, passing food to POWs, even a handful of rice was rewarded with loss of life which extended to many locals. Only a few remain alive now who survived the POW treatment by the Japanese, but many of the next generation remember the ordeal suffered by those who returned to their home countries physically and mentally damaged after their treatment. Thailand continues to be the final resting place fot those who lost their lives as prisoners here, and the Kanchanaburi region remains a reminder of the extent to which some nations will go in their belief of superiority, but resulting instead in notoriety. On 2nd of september, the documentation approved by Japan’s Hirohito was signed on a US warship.
