– Government mulls up to 60,000 baht fines for marijuana users in Thailand
An elongated survey of opinions is likely to delay the planned law on cannabis as, according to the Public Health Minister, despite the PM’s commitment to restrict use to medical and not recreational use, there is reason to seek further opinions before bringing the law, in any form, into effect.  Pro-cannabis groups will also have their say and they, well, they certainly don’t like the plan to fine anyone.. up to 60K baht.  One thing is for certain, the cabinet will only pass the proposal if it is convinced that in its final form, it will be voted UP in the house.

– Former PM Thaksin to walk free this week
Former PM Thaksin  has seen his official pardon confirmed that will allow his release by the weekend.  After months in a police hospital, to ill, we are told to join the regular prison community, Thaksin is likely to be transported to a luxury home owned by his family in the capital.  With many expecting a miraculous recovery once free, others are asking whether he will still wield any power over the current political arena.

–  Thailand’s Songkran national holiday extended
The National holiday for Songkran has been extended to 5 days this year in an effort to boost tourism from within the country. The 5 days, including a weekend, are expected to see a surge in hotel bookings, especially in Pattaya and other tourist areas. That’s the main songkran period covered but in all, this year, plans are afoot to organize numerous events, many cultural, nationwide, over a 3 week period that will be of interest to visitors from overseas too.

– Seriously injured tourist found in Pattaya field
CCTV shows a Russian man, believed to have self harmed, in a wooded Naklua area, roaming the nearby streets in an odd fashion prior to disappearing from sight.    He was rescued in the nick of time as reports indicate that he had cuts, possibly from a bottle, across much of his body.  The 50 year old was taken for medical and psychological treatment   A local resident found the injured foreigner and called the police and a bloody beer bottle was taken as evidence.

– 80 tonne crane overturns at Chonburi construction site
A new building under construction for the Chonburi provincial administration saw an accident this week as an 80 ton mobile crane overturned when the boon entangled with a fence, seeing the rig overturn onto a passing pickup truck.

– Illegally pawned vehicles seized from Pattaya dealership
Commercial leasing officials along with police visited a car dealership on the Sukhumvit this week, expecting to see the usual display of vehicles for sale.  Behind that, though, they were amazed to find a massive storage facility full of illegally pawned vehicles and bikes.  The leasing companies were interested because, in several cases this vehicle ALREADY had liens on them from finance companies or were owned by leasing companies.  Either way,   6 cars and 60 motorcycles were taken away by authorities.  No word on arrests.

– Valentines Day in Pattaya
Be aware or beware, that’s the 103 fm warning to all today as it’s Valentine’s day.  In years gone by, Thai ladies would have told you they don’t want flowers, ONLEE FOR FUNERAL.. Today, it’s not the same and that’s reflected in the price of roses, even wholesale, this week too.  From florists to supermarkets, there’s no excuse to forget, and to our female listeners, we wish you a happy valentines day, and hope you will forgive him if he accidentally overlooks the event.. due to extenuating circumstances.
