– National holiday today as the nation remembers Thailand’s King Rama 9
Today sees Thailand enjoy a holiday to celebrate the life of the late King Rama 9, who passed away on this day. Nationally renowned as the father of the nation, King Bhumibol’s memory will remain strong across the nation.

– 1,800 unregistered guns seized in clampdown
The Thai police report a total of 1800 unregistered, blank firing or BB guns being seized in the last week following a huge clamp down mainly on dealers following the Siam Paragon shooting. With many modified to accept live rounds, police have also arrested numerous people ahead of a national plan to clamp down on gun ownership. Over 75 thousand live rounds were also seized.

– First group of Thais repatriated from Israel, over 5,000 remaining
As the first group of returnees from Israel arrived in Bangkok, so concern is as to HOW the country can implement a mass retrieval of the 5,000 workers now registering for help in repatriation. The Air force has seconded several planes but it will be a massive operation for sure. Of those returning some had gunshot wounds and required treatment, others were just glad to be home.

– American arrested in brutal knife attack on tourist
A 28 year old American has been arrested in Chiang Mai after being traced by police following a brutal street stabbing on another tourist. Traced to his boarding house, he was found, along with the knife and faces charges of attempted murder.

– Flooding worsens in Thailand
Concern is rising in the capital as heavy rains from the north and open dams along the Chao Phraya has seen major flooding in Ayutthaya, just 50 miles away. Half of the districts within that province reporting flooding, and river levels rising fast, its sandbag time in Bangkok.
