– WARNING for motorbike riders in Thailand
Yet another tourist and motorbike story with sad results as a Queenslander is said to be in a Thai hospital in a coma, running up large bills after he hit a concrete barrier.  Reports indicate that his passenger fared better as he.. wasn’t wearing a helmet.  Worse?  Again, his travel insurance will not cover his bill as, with no helmet, it appears he had no bike license, even in his homeland.  The second similar news story from Oz in a week and a serious warning to all who rent bikes, even twist and go scooters here.  Bills in a private hospital have already hit the 2 million mark and family are struggling to raise funds.  ANNOYINGLY, unlike car rental companies, bike renters mostly do NOT offer rider insurance – something which is likely to be addressed in the near future in Thailand.

– Thai soldier ‘forgiven’ by family for impregnating step-daughter
A Thai soldier who made his own 14 year old step daughter unwillingly pregnant WILL be charged and face a court despite the girl’s mother and other family members asking that he be forgiven as he is the family breadwinner.    Public response has been very negative toward them as it’s clear that money overrides decency for them.  The issue was reported TO police by her teacher. The sergeant major first class has, we are told, admitted his crime and WILL not be let off the hook by  police or the army.

– Good news for travelers to Thailand
More good news for travelers using Bangkok’s main airport as, we are told, the new third runway will be in operation by mid year.  Sunday saw the transport minister make the announcement as he also announced that the airport capacity will be increased from 67 flights per hour to 94 flights per hour,  add to that the now operational, again, auto passport control system that speeds up queuing and things are on the up for travelers.

– Forex scammer arrested
After three years on the run, a Thai woman was this weekend arrested in Songkhla, charged with being one of 4 who operated a forex scam that netted them a massive 300 MILLION baht from just 250 people.  With investments, so called, ranging from 20K to 6 million baht, all lost every satang to the 4 who disappeared. She, as is often the case, denies all charges.

– Huge cyber security breach in Thailand
Thailand’s Minister of social development has told the press that reports of a massive breach in cyber security have led to details of millions of Thai retirees.. has been over exaggerated.  This follows reports that 20 million rows of private data were found on the so called dark web and available for sale.  Amid concerns that many of those listed will NOT be internet savvy and unaware of any effect. He HAS apologized and says that a full investigation is underway  with the national cyber security agency now involved.

– Hotel booking scammer arrested
And finally, at last, at least one of those Facebook scammers offering fake hotel rentals has been arrested.  With hundreds, sf not thousands of tourists, Thai and non Thai turning up at hotels to find that their bookings are non existent,  the first publicized arrest was in northern Thailand and of a 37 yr old Thai man who duped people into believing that he, under various pseudonyms, could offer a special deal on accommodation.   Police estimate that he netted close a million baht from 4 dozen people who reported him.

– Taiwanese arrested on Walking Street for fraud
Pattaya police nabbed a Taiwanese at the weekend, following a request from his home country where he faces fraud charges.  The 22 yr old is said to have been arrested as he was recognized on Walking Street. The party is over for sure as he faces jail when he is deported.

– Ring removed from Pattaya man’s wedding tackle
Medical teams who assisted a 38 yr old Thai man by cutting off an aluminum ring from his wedding tackle have warned that despite social media trending tales, and of course sales, the wearing of a tight fitting ring probably does not enhance performance but certainly leads to enhanced embarrassment.

– Burapa Bike Week 2024
Burapa bike week fared well at times when there was no rain this weekend.  With many leaving covered in mud after storms and of course the danger of water and electricity seeing delays in music performances, the event otherwise ran smoothly and was well attended.
