VERY LATEST NEWS FROM THAILAND in English (11 October 2023) from Fabulous 103fm Pattaya

– Thai death toll in Israel rises to 18
The number of Thais killed during the conflict in Israel has increased to 18, while nearly 4000 workers have asked to return to Thailand, ths according to the latest statement from a Thai Envoy in Israel. This as officials there liaise with their home country to arrange flights and also the movement OF Thais to safer regions, tomorrow will see the arrival of the fist small batch of workers here in their homeland and flights are expected to be increased between now and the weekend of great concern is a statement from the government that says that the airports are seeing violence. Thai officials are also making efforts to free Thai workers who are being held hostage and rumours of virtual slave trading, for a fee that has circulated on social media are, we are told, fictional.

– Tourists busted for smuggling
The capital two Hong Kong passport holders were arrested after a shipping company reported their repeated mailings to authorities. When they arrived again to post they were held and packages checked were found to contain drugs destined for Australia. 18 parcels each containing a kilo of heroin were seized, the drugs were hidden among clothing.

– Thai government reviewing cases of thousands of Israelis traveling in Thailand
As fights out and into Israel are becoming fewer and fewer, so the Thai government is working with the Israeli embassy to review the cases of some 10 thousand tourists currently here on holiday. It’s been noted though that whilst many major airlines HAVE suspended flights to tel aviv, EL Al continued with regular schedules.

– Flooding continues as rivers overflow in Thailand
As water levels in dams and rivers up country reach critical levels SO irrigation officials HAVE overseen the increase in flow DOWNSTREAM from dams on the Chao Phraya, by the weekend the increase could be 25% over normal and that is already seeing flooding. Up country the flooding is by far worse seeing numerous provinces reporting river bank overflows, roads and bridges destroyed and homes under waters in some areas and railway authorities are constantly checking lines to ensure that drivers are aware of any flooding of tracks.

– Farmers to be issued property deeds
Good news for farmers as plans are afoot to issue regular property deeds for the millions of acres currently owned by farmers but registered on what are effectively OWNERSHIP DOCUMENTS usually issued by local authorities. Whilst land can currently be sold, it’s an odd and local process, the new registration of farmland and smallholdings will allow the proper sales procedures AND make mortgages easier.

– Pattaya beach ruined by heavy storms
As Pattaya saw a clear up from the storms, many voices were concerned at the state of the beaches which saw huge channels cut out by the floodwaters. No issues really for city hall who DO have a full beach team AND moving equipment which, we are told, is already being used to return the sand to a level surface. The new drains DID, for the most part, work well, with only some points needing booster pumps. Issues of blocked pipes may have contributed to third road flooding though but no amount of drainage can stop flooding when some 5-6 inches of rain falls in afew hours, HOWEVER, the new drainage IS clearing flooding fast.

– Snake warning
A quick reminder to watch out for snakes and other types that live around you, for many their nests have been damaged in the rains and that, well, it puts them on the move. Favourite hiding places are your home, vehicle or even shoes. Worth keeping an eye out for sure as this of course, was their home before it was ours.
