Police, rescue and bo mb disposal teams from Rayong’s explosive ordnance disposal unit were dispatched to a Rayong street yesterday after the detonation of one explosive device and the discovery of some 8 others strewn along the highway. As the area in the Ban Khai area was cordoned off, locals reported that they had heard the explosion at midnight and that they had been out on the road, spotting the others. The disposal team established that all were home made ball bearing devices and police are working on the concept that they were accidentally dropped by a local gang, intending to use them against rivals.

The search for an Iranian tourist who was washed away during a white water rafting trip was called off on Phangnga after he was found 7Km downstream, dead, some 17 hours after the incident. Seems the 5 tourists went with two boatmen on the white water experience despite heavy rains seeing river levels swell. The raft hit an obstacle, seeing all but him thrown off into the water. He had been entangled in a rope. As the others worked to free him, he was washed away by the extremely fast water flow. At around 9am on Wednesday, his body was found about 7 kilometres downstream, said Mr Ukrit, who led a team to search for the missing tourist. He was identified as Javad Bemzadifar, 42.

Those storms, well they are expected to continue randomly until at least the weekend and the advisory remains in place for swimmers to avoid the bay and small vessels to remain on shore. For consumers, we recommend that any appliance, especially cheaply made chargers, be unplugged during a storm. Power surges here are commonplace and can wipe out anything from phone charger to computers in a nanosecond. Thailand is one of the few countries which does not have effective surge protection within its grids.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand reports that the ‘Pattaya International Fireworks Festival’ has been named one of Asia’s top three Ocean Cities’ Festivals by the International Festivals and Events Association. The event, which was held even last year thanks to city hall, was awarded the prize at the Ocean Tourism Festival City Forum of Festival City of Asia, which was held in South Korea. For Pattayans it’s one of the highlights of the year, which sees events organized for visitors on an extremely regular basis and we are promised an even busier year THIS year as the covid era diminishes.
