Thailand & Pattaya News, from Fabulous 103fm (3 June 2022)

The Bangkok skyline was awash with two of the most amazing firework displays Thursday night. First, at around 8 as the British Embassy was invited to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of THE Queen Elizabeth, firing up the nighttime skies after a celebration of her reign at an event in the city, which Fabulous 103 was invited to attend, representing English language media and which saw attendance by numerous senior Thai politicians and dignitaries. Later the skyline was lit up again to welcome the birthday of Thailand’s Queen. Today in Thailand is a national holiday, for the Queen’s Birthday and traffic was heavy leaving the capital Thursday night for a three day weekend. Tolls in the capital ONLY are free, with other tolls collecting fees as normal.

Meanwhile in Pattaya as the city prepares for a second voting ballot in some areas where votes appear to have gone astray in the previous election, it’s still not clear but assumed that the city will see a ban on alcohol sales for 24 hrs NEXT weekend as is standard procedure in Thailand during an election, and one of the candidates has filed a complaint against two others, for irregularities during campaigns which will be investigated in due course. The candidate who is complaining? Came in at the tail end with a tiny amount of votes. Without doubt, the We love Pattaya Candidate WILL succeed to the office of Mayor, regardless.

In other news, prosecution WILL go ahead against an aide to a now deceased temple abbot who is charged with fraud and embezzlement of 190 million baht. The temple committee had audited accounts he had handled and filed complaints with police. He denies all charges. Millions of baht’s worth of assets have been seized by authorities.

Phuket is the first province to approve the NON wearing of masks, for healthy people, in all but the busiest of locations. With mask wearing STILL required in enclosed places, presumably including clubs and the like. The reduction in restrictions are expected to be followed by similar in the capital and, it is hoped, in Chonburi province too.

In Songkhla, 19 illegal immigrants and two Thais are being held by police following the discovery of the body of a local man, buried in a shallow grave. Forensics reports show that he was tied and gagged before being killed and many are speculating that he had accidentally come across the illegals and their guides in a forest area where he had been collecting foodstuff, worrying the guides that he would give thier game away, and leading to his murder.

The Mor Chana app, a phone program used to track and trace people during the covid era is no more. It’s been switched off as the Ministry of Public Health has deemed it no longer necessary here.

Meanwhile at home and a busy period is promised, beginning TODAY as thailand enjoys the three day weekend. Main roads were packed in the city yesterday evening and with all forms of nighttime entertainment now allowed to open, it’s the first weekend that the city returns to its former FULL ON status.

Thailand & Pattaya News, from Fabulous 103fm (2 June 2022)

Thailand & Pattaya News, from Fabulous 103fm (2 June 2022) Covid is likely to be declassified as an epidemic or pandemic and listed as a Disease UNDER SURVEILLANCE according to the Health Ministry. Such a change would alleviate the state of responsibility for free treatment for all and see any patients rely on either their Thai national health cover OR private cover, either way, as globally figures diminish, it's another […]
