Lightning storms in our region yesterday saw our studios in darkness for several hours and then the discovery that a huge power spike had beaten our voltage regulators, damaging equipment for the first time in several years. We are off air BUT plan to be back on very soon. We apologise for the inconvenience to our listeners.

City wide lockdowns in the Chinese region of Shanghai is expected to affect logistics companies globally including here in Thailand. A slow down in output there, combined with a darag on transport and port loading will not only see delays to goods coming to Thailand BUT a backup in supply of containers.

A statement issued by the mother of Tangmo, the actress who somehow fell from a pleasure boat on the Chao Praya during a private party and drowned, has asked the senate committee on human rights to allow her to withdraw a petition for further investigation into her daughters death. Citing an over zealous lawyer, now replaced, she claims the letter did not correctly imply her intentions in the matter. A second forensics investigation remains underway with results, as yet, not released to the public.

An online lottery company, selling Thai state lottery tickets but at inflated prices IS being investigated this week. Seems they bought the tickets from genuine vendors, en masse, and then resold them. Thai media reports that thousands of small legitimate vendors sold their allocation to the online company and will face disciplinary action as the fixed price for a ticket is supposed to be 80 baht. Reality is that street vendors mostly sell for 100 to the public. Either way it seems the online operation retailed more than 100 mill baht every two weeks, which caught the eye of authorities.

Good news for those along the Chao Phraya riverside as authorities report that NO oil escaped from a tank which caught fire at the mouth of the river at the weekend. Teams from the marine department scoured the area and divers confirmed no leakage of the 3.2 million litre cargo of crude oil. Reports now indicate that one crewman died and another was injured, with the balance of the team onboard rescued.

Mid day yesterday saw smoke pluming from CC condos in Soi Khao Noi. With residents quickly evacuated a fire team doused flames in a single apartment where the fire is believed to have begun in a sleeping area of a 5th floor condo. The resident, we are told, was not in the room at the time but had been until a few minutes before the fire.

More unseasonal storms are expected today for our region and will continue through to the end of the week…..and the reminder remains in place NOT to swim in the gulf, where strong undercurrents make it dangerous even for the strongest.
