Thailand & Pattaya News, from Fabulous 103fm (25 May 2022)

Insurance group SMKA has had its rehabilitation petition accepted by a bankruptcy court, declaring some 41 Billion baht of debt, of which it has settled close to 12 billion, mainly being payouts due on policies sold to cover policy holders catching covid. As policyholders plan to object, this then is the first of insurers to file for relief of debt as many others have already notified the authorities of an overload in claims. The plociies, sold for a few hundred baht in many cases, promised 100K baht to anyone who caught the virus and were obviously listed prior to the virus becoming the epidemic that it did.

Drones will be a regular sighting around the gulf from now on as the US has officially handed over complete unarmed aircraft systems to the Royal Thai navy. Unmanned perhaps, but with the capability of being armed, the package includes 5 drone planes, 2 ground control stations and full training and will allow the navy to better monitor and enforce law in Thai waters. The drones? They can fly for 16 hours without refueling.

Face masks, currently OBLIGATORY in Thailand when in public, even the streets, MAY soon be a thing of the past as the Ministry of Public Health plans to propose the removal of mask wearing requirements at a CCSA meeting. Legally you STILL have to wear a mask in public, and fines can and have been enforced. In the event that the regulation is dropped, businesses will still be entitled to individually require customers to wear them.

As anyone who’s learning Thai knows, Thai’s have a problem with their r’s. often replacing them with L’s instead, in such words as ‘rongrien’, which is often pronounced as ‘longlien’. That may well be the reason, although it hasn’t been confirmed, for a serious occurrence at Don Muang airport this month where, according to authorities, a Thai Air Asia plane landed on Runway L as opposed the allocated runway R. Despite no accident, perhaps due to luck, authorities will be fully investigating.

An Estonian expat here in the city is flying home, albeit unwillingly. Seems the 39 year old had been on the run from his home country for 4 years, living here with an expired visa, avoiding charges of being a drug dealer back home. Chonburi’s serious crime division worked with immigration police to establish his whereabouts, arresting him initially due to his overstay. That charge has seen a suspended sentence given which will allow him to be REPATRIATED quickly.

Thailand & Pattaya News, from Fabulous 103fm (20 May 2022) Following the vicious assault on a Russian lady at the east Pattaya Lake Mabprachan, a warning has been given to all to avoid the 2 km section that for some reason remains unlit and leads through dense forest.
