The weekend saw disappointment among many who had higher expectations of the outcome from the CCSA meeting Friday, due to review all Covid controls in the kingdom. Real outcome is that travelers to Thailand don’t need to take the PCR test before their journey, but still need to do here, some provinces have been rezoned, which will allow restaurants there to serve alcohol, and some borders will reopen with neighbouring countries. Songkran is to be limited to the traditional Thai style of celebration with NO WATER FIGHTS or splashing, and that’s likely to see the extended songkran days in the Pattaya region nixed.

The daughter of former PM Thaksin has been moved to a more prominent position within the Phue Thai party, raising eyebrows among many and seeing her welcomed by the majority of the parties supporters.  With NO news of an election looming, its pointless to debate whether she plans to climb higher up the ladder.

MEANWHILE as the word is we will have a city wide election for Mayor and others in the council, our current mayor has yet to throw his hat in the ring. With many who oppose him citing his lack of progress, others remember that most of his tenure has been during the covid era, which has taken up most if not all of his team’s time. The first election for mayor here in 9 years, two, if not more, have registered to oppose his election. Blaming, it appears, the current city hall team for the lack of tourism and business here. Quite how they would revitalize it with China travel banned and Russian travel on hold too, is anyone guess, but the battle of the corner office could get interesting.

And today’s story of warmth, comes from Rayong and  the owner of a shabu shabu hotpot eatery.  Now all across the internet, the story involves a young girl, who just wanted a hotpot for her birthday.  Staff noticed that whilst Dad sat with her to order, he left as she ate, because he could afford a meal for both of them. The good hearted staff not only invited him to stay but waived the bill and bought the child a birthday cake – proving that there is good out there, you just have to look for it.
