Thailand & Pattaya News, from Fabulous 103fm (20 April 2022)
Smog at 164 in our region this morning – that’s seriously in the red, dangerous levels, and followed a proven rise from early yesterday through the day which, many claim, might be as a result to businesses reopening after the holidays. Either way, the levels are dangerous for anyone with breathing issues and outside exercise is NOT recommended. Quite when Pattaya’s smog levels will decline – no one knows but, for the second day in a row they are worse even than in Bangkok.

RED faced AOT officials promised yesterday to get to the bottom of just how a construction company, and structural engineers, built and completed a large bus complex at Bangkok’s second airport, only for it to see the roof and some walls collapse due to an overload of stress from excess rain. Flimsy roofing and gutter hung bare yesterday and inspectors claimed that the gutters installed couldn’t cope with the volume of rain – no word on the materials or the angle of the roof or indeed how walls became rubble, perhaps that’s to come. No one was injured as the building isn’t in use yet, or for the foreseeable future.

Thai media reports that the number of women filing complaints against a former democrat party leader, claiming abuse at his hands, has risen to 14. With some claims going back 15 to 20 years; the politician resigned, in his words, to work on his defense, claiming total innocence.
Thai exporters plan to set up a Thai retail cooperative in China, seeing them better able to export and store goods ahead of sales there, meeting demand faster and serve Chinese online shopping customers faster.
Meanwhile at home and with smog levels reported earlier in this bulletin specific to our city and region, it’s hoped that provincial officials WILL investigate as many report difficulty in breathing.
A deranged man was cornered, disarmed and arrested in central BKK yesterday after attacking multiple people and stabbing two. Security guards at the mall were able to restrain him until police arrived and he is to be taken for mental assessment. Both of those stabbed, women, were taken for treatment at a local hospital.
Tuesday morning in the early hours saw a car wreck on the railway road at the junction with Soi Nernplubwan. One 23 yr old lady was found dead at the scene and investigators have confirmed that SHE was a PASSENGER in a private hire taxi. Seems the lady had opted for safe travel after enjoying the city scene and used an app to find a ride home. The 4.30 wreck involved the white car, used as a taxi and a pickup truck driven by a 33 yr old. Both drivers were taken for questioning and blood test results have yet to be revealed as police check CCTV footage from cameras at the junction.

And as the election machines of all candidates for the mayor’s office are firmly underway, one candidate is claiming that others have removed HIS banners and signs, in some cases, and replaced them with those of theirs. So ticked off was he, that he took his complaint to Nongprue police, who duly took a report, and, as the police are keen to flush out the sign nickers, if anyone discovers a binned signage, with the face of a smiling want to be politician along with a big number 2.. let them know.
