As we reported on Tuesday, the CCSA is due to meet tomorrow, Friday in Bangkok with an agenda that includes the reduction in restrictions currently in place to manage covid in Thailand. With several regions still not allowed to sell alcohol even in eateries, and closing times set at 11, masks are still a requirement in public and obligatory Covid testing for all who arrive here. Everything, we are told, is on the table for discussion. With songkran approaching, and already given the go ahead, many are hoping for a complete lift of all restrictions on businesses of all types across the nation, but.. we won’t know until mid Friday.

As a former army sergeant becomes eligible for parole after just four and a half years of his 34 year sentence completed, so the mother of his female victim is appealing to the parole boards to redact his release. Said to have been a model prisoner, and a trustee too, the former Bang Kwang jailbird received multiple term reductions after being found guilty of the abduction and murder of the young lady back in 2014.

3 members of what is believed to be an extended gang, have been arrested on charges of providing fake Covid test results online. Rap sheets list the collusion to use fake documents and fraud. In the same police press release, we are told that they also offered fake university degrees and even ran an openly visible website. Undercover police applied for a covid certificate, and got it within 15 minutes, leading them to the series of arrests and the laboratory company who’s certificates were faked has also filed a police complaint against the trio.

On Phuket, the killer of a swiss lady last August has been sentenced to death. The lady, an employee at a Bangkok embassy, had only just arrived back in Thailand and was killed as she enjoyed a lonely spot next to a waterfall, alone. The killer, who strangled his victim, saw his death sentence automatically amended to life in prison following his admission of guilt.

Paypal, who recently announced that changes and closures of accounts here in Thailand would NOT take place, has in fact implemented the closure of numerous accounts. The payment and money exchange company has blocked a mass of business and personal accounts despite having requested document proof of validity from companies, then re-requested them, and then re-requested them again, leaving many here without a method of paying overseas bills, accessing cash or sending money to families. Paypal ignored letters and messages from users, some like us with over a decade of use and has simply marked accounts inactive. Alternative payment companies are likely to thrive and appear to NOT have the same issues as Thailand’s Paypal.

20 business people have filed criminal complaints against an individual selling SHA + plus certificates with the promise of bypassing the regulations and checks that are supposed to be carried out before issuance. Found to be fake, as genuine authorities do regular rounds to validate certification, those businesses were ordered to close and warned of potential fines. Police are now investigating and, while the name of the alleged city hall employee is being withheld, statements have been taken and he is due to be questioned within the next few days

This week has seen the return of the Honda LPGA Thailand after the covid break, and a new record to boot, as it was the first time that a DANISH player won the championship. Nanna Madsen beat Chinese JANET Lin in the playoffs and managed to create a new record of 26 Under.

Thailand & Pattaya News, from Fabulous 103fm (16 March 2022) A comment by the deputy PM that is seen by many as an indication of a national election toward the end of the year, has been disclaimed by the PM. With the deputy PM reported in national press as stating that there COULD be a house dissolution in November and that that was his OWN opinion and not that of […]
