A comment by the deputy PM that is seen by many as an indication of a national election toward the end of the year, has been disclaimed by the PM. With the deputy PM reported in national press as stating that there COULD be a house dissolution in November and that that was his OWN opinion and not that of the state, it’s also been noted that a reception dinner is being held for leaders of ALL active political parties, hosted by the PM himself, tonight. Publicly the PM has stated that such a decision would, if considered bye based on the situation, but that he saw no reason to discuss it with the press as of now.

7 university students have been charged by police following a hazing of a newbie that led to his demise. The 19 year old was taken to a field area, plied with booze and then brutally beaten, until someone noticed he was unconscious. The uni itself has distanced itself from the incident, which was carried out by students alone, and all 7 are reported to have admitted guilt. The killing, which took place in Nakhon Ratchasima was watched by some 60 students who gathered for what is thought to have been a ritual among new arrivees.

A newly discovered variant of covid, stemming from Hong Kong, has been spotted in at least 4 patients here in Thailand. With authorities stating that it is of no greater concern than the Omicron variant. Of the 4, 3 Thai’s and one non-Thai, all have recovered. In other covid news, a meeting of the CCSA Friday may see further easing of the current covid restrictions as, as seen in recent months, the effect of the virus is now minimal and within management by the state and private medical services.

In Buriram a man is being sought after breaking into his ex wife’s home, armed with a shotgun. Seems he blasted away in the home, killing her 20 yr old son and seeing her current husband flee the scene. Over 100 police have been assigned to a manhunt as reports tell us that he and she had been together for two years until she recently left him for her new beau.

Reports of a drug dealer’s arrest close to the city have been released by police, indicating that some 10K methamphetamine tablets were taken during the raid, which resulted from information SUPPLIED by others who have already been arrested and are now assisting police with their enquiries. In an undercover operation, police dealt with a female pusher in Soi Khao Talo who then pointed them toward her supplier who was also duly rehoused behind bars.

As plans are afoot locally to prepare for the traditional side of Songkran celebrations, still no word from city hall as to whether the extended days, practiced here from Naklua to past Jomtien will be allowed. With various advisories together with restrictions in place, it’s believed that city hall must rely on the provincial offices and they on the state for a thumbs up… or down.

As the weather reaches the hot point for the season, but with the continued storms, residents here are reminded to… check their shoes. With the tradition of leaving your shoes at the entrance to a home, house owners are reminded that they provide a potentially warm and protected shelter for toads, but also SNAKES. Look before you slip them on, to make sure it’s only you that’s wearing them.
