Thailand & Pattaya LATEST NEWS from Fabulous 103fm (19 January 2023)

The UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) predicts a stronger 2023 footcount globally than previously thought, this sa China has allowed its nationals to tour and other countries too are seeing an increase in those travelling overseas. For Thailand we can expect tourism to hit close to pre covid numbers and signs this month are that that will happen for sure.  Chinese tourism has seen a massive boost for Thai tourism this month as  many are coming HERE to celebrate the Chinese new year AND once that is in the bag, more and more tourist groups are expected.

An oil tanker moored at harbours in Samut Songkhram province earlier this week is reported to have been transporting 3 million litres as cargo. With reports of up to 8 deaths aboard the stricken vessel, emergency services struggled to contain the fire which created a dense smoke covering much of the arwa.  The explosion cause, which was heard over 12 km away, has yet to be established.

And good news for industry, commerce and retailers too as the state DID approve the tax relief applied to commercial truck Diesel for a further 4 months.  As expected, the extension was approved without hindrance as, by freezing the price at the pumps, costs don’t need to increase that would affect all consumers.

Authorities in Sriracha have confirmed that the body of a man recovered from the ocean off Koh Si Chang is that of a Burmese fisherman working as crew on a local operating boat close to Naklua and autopsy reports have been filed with police.

Decorations are fast going up for the Chinese New Year along the promenade and also in Naklua where, traditionally, festive days are always well attended.   Beach road is awash with red lanterns ready for a predicted busy few days that will see tourist related businesses enjoy a mini boom. Many sites in Pattaya are gearing up to celebrate this unique, cultural festival, and we have already covered two must-visit places, including Central Pattaya Shopping Mall and Terminal 21 Pattaya.
