– Thai city ranked 6th most polluted in the world
No great claim to fame but this week the Swiss air technology company behind the AQI reporting function used globally to measure smog listed Chiang Mai and BKK as the 6th and 14th most Polluted cities in the world currently. AQI, air quality index is available from most cities globally now and with the smog having been so dense of late, Thailand has seen more and more people ill from its digestion.

– Thailand hosts thousands of troops for annual ‘Cobra Gold’
Gangplanks rattled yesterday to the tune of military boots alighting here in Thailand for the annual cobra gold exercise that will run through to March 10 and involve military in one way or another, from some 30 countries globally. The US-Thai organized events will this year see Thais and Americans alongside Singaporean, Japanese, Indonesian, Korean and Malays participating, with Chinese and Australian along with Indians joining in for what are determined as Humanitarian exercise AND representatives from another 10 nations THIS year observing.

– Beggars using children arrested in Pattaya
Meanwhile at home and the revival of the city after covid has also seen the return, en masse, of numerous beggars. An issue of concern to city hall who sent out staffers with local police to investigate. With most being Thais, some 14 were found to be immigrants and arrested. Of that number, sadly, 9 were small children under 9. Social services have their hands full as most didn’t have any ID and the adults claimed all the children as their won, despite it being known that small kids and babies are shared by beggars who work in shifts in the city and pass the youngsters from on to the other as motivation to tourist to give them money.

– Mysterious death of expat under investigation
It’s going to take a well qualified forensic scientist to establish true cause of death of a 57 yr old Finnish man who died yesterday as his wife claims he committed suicide but the method of death saw his throat slit with a kitchen knife. She had told police he had talked about suicide before, neighbours claim theirs wasn’t a blissful relationship and questions are due to be asked back in Finland where he had family and had been until 8 months ago having left Thailand before covid and remained away. Police experts recorded evidence at the Bang Saray home where the kitchen utensil was found lying on his chest. His wife stated that he had been fine as she left him to take her child to school, upon her return, she found him and called the authorities.

– Pattaya Apple thief arrested
A Pattaya Apple thief faces jail following his 20th arrest. The 54 year old preferred the powered variety though, and has a history of riding his motorbike up close to tourists and whipping away their phones. His latest victim, a Russian, reported him to police, they saw him on CCTV and, as one of their regulars, were able to quickly bang him to rights.
