Thailand and Pattaya Headline News (31 October 2022) Fabulous 103fm

National figures show that after 2 years where we all basically kept apart, disease counts are rising in pretty much every variant.  This week, new figures for 2022 Malaria cases show over 8K cases, a rise of 150%. Malaria treatment is to be offered nationwide with the reminder to discard srgnbant water in pots around the home, a favorite of the mosquito, source of Dengue and the ONLY source to humans of malaria, malaria is non transmissible from human to human.

Thailand is set to ban the export of Sodium cyanide over an extended period as amounts shipped to Myanmar and other destinations are seen as obvious black market trading. The chemical is a major component in the making of Methamphetamine and currently Thailand IMPORTS it at a massive rate as it can’t be produced here.  Not banned yet, but IF the ban goes ahead, meth producers could find themselves unable to meet demand.

The tale of a German and his car hit Thai newswires yesterday, as he and his spouse had a falling out in Lamphun. She called the police as she claimed she feared he would attack her. For whatever reason, he set fire to his own car, under a carport, before committing suicide. Cops found the 50 year old  in the garden when they arrived.  His embassy has been informed.

Meanwhile at home and in Banglamung a local bottom feeder of a human was caught by police after pulling up alongside a  wheelchair bound ticket vendor and pointing a gun at her, demanding her days taking and more. He apologised, which was, according to the lady… nice, but not enough to dissuade her from pressing charges.

Nicknamed Big Joke, Thailand’s  Sherlock Holmes is becoming more popular than ever in the media.  Police Pol Gen Surachet Hakphan appears to have taken overall control of all dubious investigations nationally, ousting several who appear to have been taking backhanders, so called tea money, and demanding that in all cases, the perpetrators ARE caught and DO go to court. From the South, to the capital, to our own region, he appears to have infiltrated police operations with his own men, they then reporting directly to him. Here in our own region, the investigation into a nightclub that opened way after hours AND where the manager  blabbed that he had paid people in high places, has been linked to a similar operation, also raided in the capital amid claims that both cross traded illegal products via a Chinese network.

The villa story, where 5 men were alleged to have raided a private villa rented out to tourists, beating several and demanding information on someone in their photo. Well, in that case, not only were two patsys picked up on – people standing in for the real criminals and taking the heat, BUT a local senior policeman has, according to Surachat’s office, been MOVED on as a cash transfer is investigated. Now, more Chinese are involved in a kidnap of a 41 year old Chinese who subsequently had his little finger severed, a sign in some asian countries of an unpaid debt, and video footage of that sent to his brother and 20 yr old girlfriend.  She had reported him missing after a demand for 30 mill baht was received. They had transferred the grand sum of 150K baht before the man’s vehicle was spotted at Mabprachan Lake and he was finally recovered and taken to hospital.  No word yet on his attackers but the big issue appears to be just HOW so many Chinese appear to have visas, with claims being bandied about that many are here on education visas despite, of course, not going anywhere near a classroom.

In other news, locally from police and Gen Surachat, we have details now of the bar in Treetown alleged to have employed underage staff.  Cobra beer bar was the named venue. The owner and her british husband have been charged regarding the pimping of  youngsters which is a human trafficking charge here.  No Updates on the Sattahip bar fire said be under investigation, no updates on the question of fire safety in several city venues and no updates regarding the woman who threw herself from a city balcony as she was pursued by a gang that had videoed her in compromising positions and threatened to send those to her family unless she work as a call girl.  In that case, 3 chinese are being held by police.
