– Bangkok airport bust over 108 million bahts worth of illegal substances
Heroin with a street value of 108 mill baht has been seized at BKK’s main airport following the discovery of 95 imperial pound weight of the drug stashed in 29 packages. With the drug en route to Hong Kong, it was wily customs staff that double-checked boxes marked as cosmetic, clothing and even electronic goods.
– Clampdown on field burning amid rising air pollution levels
Several provinces have clamped down on the burning of fields and even grassland as smog levels peak across Thailand. Satellite maps show excessive numbers of smog sources in Laos and Cambodia however Thailand ISN’T clear either and with regions such as Kampang Pet in the northwest reaching above the TWO hundred level, town halls are being asked by district offices to ensure fires of any kind are doused. The haze is stagnant in most regions, including our own and for many not only causing problems with breathing but eye-watering too. So much so that pharmacies are seeing a big increase in the sale of eyewash solutions.

– Woman arrested for human trafficking
In Nonthaburi, police have taken a woman into custody charged with being the claimed top boss of a gang smuggling Burmese nationals from Myanmar to Malaysia in search of work. With reports that she was involved in 7-9 people smuggling cases, currently being processed, and some 21 million baht passing through her personal account in under half a year, she is due to be transported to Songkla where courts will consider her case.
– Swedish man found deceased in tent
On Krabi, local media reports that a 60-year-old Swede was discovered dead in a camping tent there. With their reports indicating that numerous empty alcoholic drink containers were found too.. his embassy has been informed and a post-mortem will be carried out at the end of this week.
– Non-profit organizations under investigation for hiring illegal workers
In Chiang Mai, local authorities plan to close down for so-called foundations, non-profit organizations after they discovered each had been listing illegal Chinese immigrants as workers, in order that they could get visas. NON, ITS CAIMED, HAD EVER ATTENDED OR WORKED AT THE FOUNDATIONS, AND IN OTHER PROVINCES, SIMILAR CHECKS ARE BEING CARRIED OUT THIS MONTH.
– Expat crashes into 18 wheeler, flips truck
A 68-year-old American expat came off lucky after crashing HIS pickup truck into the back of an 18-wheel heavy goods truck in Banglamung. His Nissan pickup was a write-off, to all intents and purposes but the man survived, initially refusing hospital treatment until his Thai partner persuaded him to travel by ambulance to casualty at Banglamung Hospital. The driver of the 18-wheeler was en route to the Laem Chabang port and only noticed the crash when the wreckage flew past him.
– No more getting horny in Pattaya bars
And the horn is now officially banned in all city bars, clubs and gogos. Following complaints from locals about the incessant use of claxons and electronic horns, city hall and Banglamung licensing authority has asked all to refrain from using such during the course of an evening. Often used to signal a customer buying a round of drinks for all, they are to be removed from all businesses forthwith. We contacted the owner of several dens of iniquity in soi six who told us that he had never liked the horn in his bars anyway and would willingly replace any in his establishments with bells.

– Woman arrested for stealing vomiting mans motorbike
There was no reason given in Pattaya police reports for an Italian parking his rented motorbike at 6am, to retch at the side of the road but as he got sick, a local woman took advantage of the fact that he had left the key in the ignition, stole it and sped off. She now has been arrested, 2 weeks later and the bike recovered as indeed, we are told, is the errant driver.
