PATTAYA & THAILAND HEADLINE NEWS from Fabulous 103fm (2 December 2022)

The much promoted POINTS system for drivers in Thailand will officially go into effect as of January 9th according to the dept of land transport. Unlike other countries where points are accrued here. Annually, each driver is allocated 12 points and then will see points deducted as a result of infringements of the road traffic act. Motoring offences are broken down into 4 grades, depending on the severity with drunk driving and dangerous driving gleaning the most points, 4 whilst using a mobile phone, speeding, failing to stop at pedestrian crossings and not giving way to emergency vehicles. There is a full list on our video news, however the two issues of interest are that DUI does NOT get a driving ban, losing all your points results in a 90 day driving ban, and the points are annually credited back to full, making it so that a bad driver, or at least one caught, starts all over again each year with a clean slate.

(See video for points details)

According to Thai media, Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) on Tuesday requested a refund of the 600 million baht donated to the Sports Authority of Thailand to ensure free viewing of all world cup matches for all Thais, whether with or without pay per view TV. With the claim that the sports authority undertook to make sure that those with free TV WOULD be given the same viewing as others paying, it became quickly evident that when a single satellite network forked out for 25% of the FIFA cost, they were given exclusive rights to 50% of all the games INCLUDING THE FINAL.

Crypto mining usually incurs huge electricity bills but when the DSI obtained warrants to inspect 41 locations around the capital, they found that despite seeing some 2000 pieces of computer equipment used to mine for the virtual stocks, the operators had run up TINY power bills. How? Well, they had hooked up to the main power supply on the outside of their meters. With the electricity bill running to just 300 to 2000 a month it was estimated that they were actually stealing a whopping half a million bahts worth of units AT EACH location. Arrests were made and those involved will be charged with theft.

Meanwhile at home, and following a shooting between what was considered to be rival gangs on second road near Walking Street this week, the man who fired, wounding two, has handed himself into police after they issued an APB for his arrest. Amazingly, he would have the police believe that they were all, actually, good friends and that his shooting was an accident. Seems he accidentally took out his gun, cocked it and took the safety off, then fired it without aiming, succeeding in hitting two others. His amazing succession of accidents was written down in his statement but ignored by wily cops who took the gun from the crying man as evidence. No word on whether either of the two who were shot intend to overlook his oversight either.

In Chonburis Ban Bueng, 9 passengers were injured and one killed after an unsecured hook on a mobile crane swung and hit the minivan they were travelling in. Such was the force that it overturned the minibus. The driver stated that the crane drove out from a side street into the main thoroughfare with the hook swinging from the boon. Police are checking CCTV .

THAILAND & PATTAYA HEADLINE NEWS from Fabulous 103fm (1st December 2022)

THAILAND & PATTAYA HEADLINE NEWS from Fabulous 103fm (1st December 2022) In SONGKHLA, a gang operating a vehicle fraud have been arrested following an investigation into their RENTING vehicles from car rent offices at Hat Yai airport, and then using them to borrow money, as collateral. No small operation this, as it appears they cleared some 100 vehicles the same way, never obviously returning them before the rental companies clicked […]
