SCB Internet banking comes to an end
Anyone using online banking via the internet on a PC or laptop is warned that Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) will be cancelling its long serving banking program   “SCB EASY NET ” from next month.  July 14th sees that turned off and users recommended the phone app instead.  Many are less than happy as the Internet banking provided several services unavailable from the trendy yet lacking phone app.  All down to security though as all banks work to reduce online fraud. Direct debits set up on the soon to be defunct program WILL remain effective after the shut down.

In Yala province, to the deep south of Thailand, 4 policemen were injured by a roadside insejury device as they provided security for teachers en route to a local school.  The injuries, reported as minor, saw most hospitalized and their vehicle severely damaged. Many embassies recommend avoiding those provinces further South as they are the only regions within Thailand that have regular terrorist activity.

Five civil servants, along with two others have been arrested on charges of selling off fish, seized from illegal trawlers and pocketing the cash.  Most are customer officials and all, allegedly, held on to one of several containers of fish seized during a raid, later legally putting the content up for auction BUT instead  of it going to local communities and vendors, the auction was rigged so that their favoured buyer got the lot,  and they pocketed the dosh.  147 tonnes of fish was seized during the raids with an estimated value of between 300 and 400 MILLION BAHT.

Tourist nabbed at Bangkok airport for smuggling animals
A SAUDI ARABIAN was in police custody yesterday at BKK airport instead of being on a flight home.  Seems his luggage was checked and officials found nearly 100 animals, barely alive and packed in his suitcases.  More though as 90 oceanic mammals were also found.  Quite what he planned to do with them is of cursory interest but he won’t be seeing home any time soon.

Clampdown on law offices offering company shareholders to foreigners
On Phuket, the DSI raided an accounting and law office where it alleged that the owners were offering nominee shareholdings to allow non-thais to own homes or businesses.  The raid, likely a spin off from recent arrests of criminals there,  saw the Thai female owner and her foreign husband detained and all staff questioned.  Most genuine law offices refuse to be involved in registering fake shareholders after numerous investigations in the past.

Heroic cop rescues bedridden woman from burning house
When a fire broke out in the home of an aging woman who was bedridden, neighbors watched as smoke and flames rose filling the building, but not one local cop  who went into the burning building and carried the lady to safety from the terraced home.  When interviewed he told the press that he was ‘JUST DOING HIS DUTY’.  Proving that there are plenty of good boys in brown out there too.

The development was planned for several decades and is based on predictions that business, along with tourism, will move to the Eastern seaboard at a growing pace.

Burglars use hidden key to break into Pattaya woman’s room
When mum regularly hid a key outside her rented room so that her daughter could get in after school, she didn’t bank on two wily locals robbing her of everything she owned.  The Banglamung resident called police after noticing amulets, phones and savings missing.  Neither thief has been identified.

Pattaya bus driver reverses over girlfriend
Emergency services were called to Chaiyapruk road after a coach driver backed his vehicle over his girlfriend.  Seems she was giving him hand signals as he parked but, according to him, he couldn’t see her so continued to reverse until she was squeezed between the coach and a wall. Amazingly she survived, but with broken bones and possible internal injuries.

Teens home raided after posting pics of fake guns on Facebook
When a local 18 year old posted photos of weapons on Facebook boasting of their power, cops took interest as, semi automatic handguns aside, he also showed off a fully automatic rifle.  They tracked him to his home and raided it, waking the tattooed teenager and shocking him as he saw just how well prepared the police team was.  Stupid boy though, he confessed that he was all bull crud and bravado as he showed the weapons, all discovered to be fakes.  Seems he didn’t realize his post had gone viral and been seen by thousands, as he intended it only for his virtual friends.
