FABULOUS 103FM HEADLINE NEWS (11 APRIL ’23) FROM THAILAND & PATTAYA

Songkran holiday traffic begins early
Traffic is already on the rise on Thai highways, and has been since the weekend as many start their Songkran holidays early.  Congestion as reported on the main highways to Isaan Monday as many employers have closed down workplaces early.   Officially the holidays being Thursday through midnight Monday but, as always, the Pattaya songkran madness will continue two days after everywhere else.

6 dead in tragic family murder
Yesterday’s news here on fab 103 saw us reporting on the killing of a Suratthani man and wife, along with others, following what had been reported as a falling out between them and their new son in law.  Now, with one of the attackers in custody, police also tell us that the gunman’s new wife, the daughter of the couple he shot, has also been found dead, and his own son, from a previous marriage too, bringin the total to 6 grizzly killings, all as a result of the parents not approving of their daughter’s new, second husband.  No word on the killer’s whereabouts but a nationwide police search is underway in areas that he has a relationship to.   3 gunmen at the weekend fired on the family who DID return fire, killing the brother of lead gunam, their son in law before being shot themselves.

Mother forced to take comatosed son to conscription site
The Thai army has apologized to the mother of a man in a coma, who was ordered to bring him to the constitution centre to prove his disability.  New regulations are being put in place to ensure that it never happens again and, in future, army representatives will, if need be, be sent to the homes of those physically unable to attend.  The army doesn’t know who is and isn’t fit for service, as they simply get a listing of all ages along with addresses, however extra care has to be given, especially when, as in this case, the parents reported his disability in advance.

Scammers plead for court hearing delay due to ‘stress’
A team of scammers, arrested and charged with a huge ponzi scheme that robbed thousands of Thais of their savings, has applied to the court to have their hearing setback for a later date as.. they are suffering from stress. Their Forex scam saw many Thais falling for their promises and in too many cases, even using credit cards to INVEST even more money before they were closed down by police.   But they have the medical certificates showing themselves to be ill, and it’s all down to the judges to decide whether their stress is any worse than that caused to those who lost their life savings.

Indian man threatens to jump from 14th floor balcony
At 4 am in the morning, Pattaya police were called to a Thappraya road condo block where a n Indian man, aged between 30 and 40, was on a 14th floor  balcony claiming that he was going to jump.  He was talked down and taken away.

Online Thai voting system crash
A network overload issue appears to have brought the government online registration for absentee voting to a halt at the weekend.  Now back online, operators claim that the demand far exceeded their expectations.  Thais who reside, for example  in Pattaya, can apply to vote HERE as opposed to travelling to other home towns and villages and that voting will be done at the indoor sport stadium on election day.
